Co-Working Space

CONCEPT STATEMENT

This project is to design a co-living space named Artsy. The keywords are from the brushstroke of Chinese Painting. The materials used in Chinese painting, are brush and ink on paper and silk.  Derived from calligraphy, it is essentially a linear art, employing brushwork to evoke images and feelings. Once written on paper, brushstrokes cannot be erased or corrected, so the painter must have a complete mental concept of the painting before even lifting the brush.

The painter must work with speed, pitch, liveliness, confidence, and technical mastery, infusing spiritual energy into the brushstrokes. Chinese paintings do not attempt to capture the actual physical appearance of a subject, but rather its essential nature or character. Chinese paintings do not have a single perspective; every area of the painting is interesting to the eye.

Based on the above understanding of Chinese painting, I have concluded that the need for Chinese painting is to be firm and confident. In this way, each stroke will look vivid visually.

CONCEPT STATEMENT

This project is to design a fine dining restaurant for Core by Clare Smyth. Core is an elegant and informal fine dining restaurant with an emphasis on natural, sustainable food from some of UK's most dedicated farmers and food producers. The first keyword is “natural”. They emphasize natural and sustainable food to customers and provides the customers a good environment to eat.

Secondly, the “curve characteristic” comes from the seasonings they used. Each ingredient and seasonings used will create a different visual line. They have certain requirements for the layout of each dish, and one or two dishes will have curved design on it. For example, Lobster and spelt, are arranged in the shape of the moon.

The third keyword is “growth”. They create beautifully crafted dishes, seeking out the best of British production, with a passion of delight and a share of curiosity for our love towards delicious artisanal food.
